Based on a screenplay by the filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, this film examines the intricate lives of women in Iranian society. A selection of the 2001 New Directors/New Films and 2000 Cannes Film Festival.

Shirin Neshat’s Trilogy and New Work

Saturday, March 31 at 7pm with Shirin Neshat
Winner of the Golden Lion at the 1999 Venice Biennale and one of the most exciting artists active today, Shirin Neshat will present her trilogy of dual-screen videos on male-female relationships in Iran: Turbulent (1999), Fervor (2000), and Rapture (2000). She will also premiere new works, including a piece commissioned and scored by Philip Glass.

The latest film by filmmaker Jafar Panahi (director of The White Balloon and The Mirror) follows three women released from prison, whose need for shelter and money leads them to take desperate measures. Winner, Golden Lion, 2000 Venice International Film Festival.
