This program features two foreign language films, selected by Kids First! as among the year’s best, that will introduce kids to families from around the world. There will be live narration of subtitles on behalf of younger viewers. Peur Hoi Nang Rom (For the Oysters) is the sweet and heart-breaking story of Wenai, a Thai boy whose impoverished mother leaves him in the care of his grandmother. In the fishing village of Angsila, Wenai adjusts to his new surroundings while coping with the feeling of abandonment. His grandmother gives Wenai a loving and nurturing home, even when she struggles to put food on the table. Wenai’s outlook on life changes when he meets, and becomes smitten with, his classmate Ann. Ann invites Wenai to her birthday dinner. A dish is required for the pot-luck feast requiring Wenai to go to work for his dream — impressing Ann with a big fish.. Shown with Girl Stars: Anita The Beekeeper (8 minutes). Anita Kumari is a beekeeper in Bihar, India. When Anita was young, her parents did not want her to go to school, but Anita longed so much to go to school that she knew she had to find a way to pay for her education. Anita saw men in her village-keeping bees and decided to give it a try.
