FILM SOCIETY PRESENTS A WEEKEND OF NEW ARGENTINE FILMS AND FILMMAKERS | March 19, 2003
From April 3-5, 2003, the Virginia Festival Film Society will present CINE ARGENTINA, a weekend film series introducing audiences to the exciting new wave of filmmaking from Argentina. Four films (Herencia, Mundo Grua, Río Escondido and Bolivia) will be screened over the course of three days at the Vinegar Hill and Newcomb Hall Theaters. Tickets for each of the series’ four screenings are $7.00 public/$3 students and free for Film Society members, and will be on sale at the door.

The 15th Virginia Film Festival played to overflow crowds. Attendance for Festival events exceeded 11,800, a 25% increase over the 2001 event, with many events selling-out completely. The Virginia Film Festival’s mix of premieres, classic films, performance artists and experimental work creates a cross-section of media that is unique in the film festival world. Multimedia Artists Guillermo Gomez-Peña and Lynn Hershman Leeson to Make Waves at 15th Annual Virginia Film Festival | October 12, 2002
The 15th Annual Virginia Film Festival will highlight the work of two prominent and highly provocative multimedia artists: Guillermo Gomez-Peña and Lynn Hershman Leeson. Their in-person presentations, which include film and video showings, performance art, and lectures, will be featured in five unique events during this year’s “WET” Film Festival, running Thursday, Oct. 24, through Sunday, Oct. 27. Generous support from the University of Virginia Forum for Contemporary Thought and the University of Virginia Art Museum have made the visits of these gifted, politically-engaged artists possible.
The 2002 Virginia Film Festival Gets "Wet" from October 24 - 27 | October 11, 2002
Charlottesville, VA- The 15th annual Virginia Film Festival, slated to take place from October 24 through October 27, 2002, will focus on the theme of "WET," Festival Artistic Director Richard Herskowitz announced today. Viewers will be invited to dive into four days of movies featuring images of water, including seas, rivers, rain, swimming pools, showers, beverages, and body fluids. Among the guests already confirmed are director Lynn Hershman, who will bring her latest film Teknolust, legendary experimental filmmaker George Kuchar, and, returning to conduct his biennial shot-by-shot workshop, film critic Roger Ebert.

2002 FILM FESTIVAL PROGRAM WILL GO ONLINE ON SEPTEMBER 20 BY 1PM. Charlottesville, VA—Prepare to get “Wet” at the 15th annual Virginia Film Festival, scheduled for October 24 through October 27, 2002. Viewers will be invited to dive into four days of films, exhibitions, panel discussions and performances featuring water imagery, including seas, rivers, rain, beverages and body fluids. Timely issues such as drought, conservation, and water rights will also be given special attention.
